But sometimes memories are too strong and the past too powerful. Or so it seems when she slips back in time and ends up on an unexpected journey with a man she was determined to forget.
Having confronted who he once was and what he did in a previous life, Kodran Sigdir sets out to seek answers. He needs to better understand his part in an age old war and to keep his distance from Erica. They should remain apart. Yet destiny seems to be drawing him back to her. How he once felt. All he gave up. Could things go differently this time? Or will the risk to their people be too great? Excerpt:

“Are you sure
Hallstein was your mate in another life?” His eyes held hers as he spun her so
that they were facing each other. “Do you have memories of your time with him?”
He shook his head, spoke through clenched teeth and worked hard to keep rage
from taking over as he caught glimpses of what she had endured. “He did things
to you, Erica. Terrible things. Things that make no sense given you were
Maeva…his mate.”
She leaned back,
clenched her jaw and averted her eyes. “Yes, he was my mate. I’m sure of it.”
“Then why can’t
you look at me when you say that?” He tilted her chin until she had no choice
but to meet his eyes. “What aren’t you telling me? What’s the missing piece?”
He frowned. “Because something’s not adding up.”
“It doesn’t…you
just…” She frowned as well. “You need to let this go. You need to let me go.
It’s the only way this is going to work. It’s the only hope we have.”
“And where am I
supposed to let you go to?” He glanced around to remind her where they were
before his eyes returned to hers. “Because it’s out of my control, yes?”
“You know what I
mean.”
“Do I?” He
stepped a bit closer and never removed his fingers from her chin. “Because as
far as I can tell you want me to believe you desire Hallstein when that’s the
furthest thing from the truth. I think you’re trying to push me away so that
you can somehow save everyone all on your own.”
Because he was
remembering his last life, he remembered what Maeva had looked like. While they
shared the same tall, lithe build with curves in all the right places, he found
Erica more stunning in this life. Her eyes were varying shades of striking
green that seemed to shift with her mood, and her warm skin tone was luminous.
He wanted to feel her soft skin against him. Touch every last inch of her.
She went very
still as their eyes held. Or so one would think if they couldn’t detect the
slight tremor that went through her. Shivers that only translated to another
dragon. He also noticed that she had gone from momentarily vulnerable to
completely closed off despite her physical reaction.
“You’re good at
that,” he murmured, shifting even closer to see if he could bring out that
tremor even more. “Trying to be strong for everyone else all the time. How long
have you played that part?” While he should have remained compassionate and
thankful, his inner dragon was flaring. The jealousy that reared whenever he
thought about her in the enemy’s arms. “How long have you been playing the part
of a woman trying to convince Hallstein that you’re his? How long have you
been—”
“No,” she cut
him off, yanked her chin away and narrowed her eyes. “What I’ve done to help
our people is not because—”
“Because you’re
meant to be together?” he cut her off just as readily, as he turned things
around on her. “Because you’re not, are you?” He shook his head and narrowed
his eyes as well. “You’re not supposed to be with him.” His voice dropped to a
whisper as the truth hovered just out of reach. Like a memory he was right on
the verge of remembering. “You never were, but something happened…”
Something he
needed to understand, so he thought fast. If one thing had been proven true
with his kin and their mates it was that intimacy seemed to speed up their
mental connections. So why not get things moving in that direction?
It seemed Erica
followed his line of thought because a moment later she started to move away
but he caught her. With an arm around her lower back, he yanked her against
him, cupped the back of her neck and kissed her.

The moment he
did, everything changed.

Excerpt 2

Rosa stalked through the
forest ahead of me, deliberately averting her gaze from my naked body. I wanted
to make a joke about it, but judging by the set expression on her face, I knew
it wasn’t the best time.
When Rosa reached the cabin,
she stomped across the porch, unlocked the door, walked inside and slammed the
door shut behind her. I stopped myself before I slammed my face against the
glass panel.
“Hey,” I rapped against the
window beside the door. “I’m still out here.”
“I know that. Say what you
need to say to me through the door,” Rosa moved toward the kitchen, and started
slamming her groceries down on the bench. Her hands were still shaking. “I’m
not having you inside, not when you could turn into one of them.
“Could you at least throw me
a towel or something? It’s a little nippy out here and I’m afraid I’m not
showing you my best angle.”
The corners of Rosa’s mouth
tugged upward a little, but she didn’t crack that gorgeous smile for me. She
balled up the red duvet she’d spread over the bed, and shoved it through the
door to me, slamming it shut behind her before I could get an arm through the
gap.
I wrapped the duvet around
my lower half, knotting the ends together. “Not quite the kilt I’m used to, but
it’s something.”
“Don’t try to be funny, Caleb.
This is serious. You’re a werewolf. I was just attacked by two other
werewolves. The werewolves that attacked me today – they’re your stepbrothers,
and they are after me to get to you for some reason that I’m sure to regret
learning.”
“That’s an astute summary of
the situation.”
“I’m going to need more,
Caleb. I’m going to need the full story.” She slammed the kettle down on the
stove, and turned on the gas.
“It’s a pretty long story.”
Rosa held up her cup and
waved it at me. She folded her arms and leaned against the bench, one hip
jutting out suggestively. “I’m listening.”

Midnight Angel – The council trailer

Midnight Angel has been out for just over two months now and I thought it was about time I shared my new council trailer with you.

There are a few places it can be found. Firstly you can find it on my Author’s website.

http://traceywood.wixsite.com/tracey-a-wood/character-bios

It is also on Youtube.
https://youtu.be/bQrsyAGSOwU

I hope you like it and it gives you a little more of an insite into Midnight Angel. Book one of the council series.

Here is an excerpt from the book.

The park was empty at this time of night. All the children had gone home hours ago. The nights were getting colder and the evening air bit through my clothes, making me shiver. A light dew clung to my hair and skin as the darkness closed in around me, shrouding me from the main road.
After a long day at work, I made my way along the manmade path. It was a good shortcut taking fifteen minutes off my journey. I would soon be home, safe and warm.
What to have for dinner? Hmm. Pizza! Yeah, I’ll dial a pizza. Treat myself. Why not?
Happy with my decision, I carried on my way.
Pulling my jacket collar up around my neck, I tried to beat the cold and the shiver running up my spine.
A sharp pain shot through my head, stunning me, and suddenly I was flying across the path. My forehead hit the ground with an audible thump. Another powerful flash of pain. Black blotches blurred my vision as I tried to focus on my surroundings.
I attempted to get up but something struck my back, flattening me to the ground. The wind rushed from my lungs. I couldn’t move! A heavy weight sat on my back, holding me down. I struggled to draw enough air into my lungs. Something sharp penetrated my back, then my arms and the top of my leg. It was pure agony!
What’s happening? Have I been stabbed?
Tucking my flailing hands under my body, I attempted to get up, a silent scream trapped inside me, but the weight held me in place.
Snaking my body, I wriggled across the compact soil of the path, attempting to pull myself forward. It was no use. I couldn’t even get to my hands and knees.
My clothes were ripped from my back as the onslaught continued.
The pain slowly dulled, even though I was still at the mercy of my attacker. My heart pounded with fear as this predator snatched at my body. I was shaken violently from side to side. My gut told me my attacker was male. He was dominant, strong, and overpowering.
Oh God, this can’t be happening. No, please. I don’t want to die!
Glancing around frantically for a weapon, I realized I still had my keys in my hand. Without thinking, I slashed them behind my back with as much force as I could. They bit into something soft. Warm fluid flowed over me.
I had hurt him and possibly made him angrier. This unseen person was going to do the unthinkable. He was going to violate me, rob me of my life, or both. I desperately needed to get away from this monster. But how? I couldn’t fight back. Damn it, I couldn’t even move.
Nausea washed over me as my body weakened, my life draining away. A dark mist clouded my mind, consuming me, consuming my thoughts. I was going to die here in a lonely, dark park in the middle of London. I would never see my family and friends again.
Why? Why? I want to live. Help me, please help me, someone!
As if this monster had heard my silent plea, the shaking suddenly stopped. The weight lifted slightly and I could breathe. Relief washed over me.
Had the attack finished? Did he think I was dead?
I lay still, faking death, struggling not to take deep, gulping breaths. I fought the panic pumping through my body.
I became aware of a stroking sensation on my back, a light caress. Small strokes, followed by a sound I could not identify. The strokes became harder and the noise louder. A wet, squelching sound.
What is that?
My head spun with confusion and panic as I strained to locate my attacker. I saw a movement from the corner of my eye. I turned but couldn’t focus. It was too dark and I was in shock.
Warm liquid ran down my back, arms, and legs. Blood. My blood, but there was no pain, still no pain.
In a moment of clarity, I knew I had to move. To get away before my attacker struck again.

Back of the book blurb
After almost losing her life in a vicious, bloody attack. Kat Shaw, a thirty-something, divorcee, discovers that there are such things as monsters. And the predator who attacked her is not human. She starts to develop unusual skills which have murderous consequences. And is an unwilling witness to multiple, brutal murders, seen through the eyes a killer. When mercenary soldier Michael Corritore answers a desperate call from an ex-military buddy, he finds himself in the middle of a double kidnapping, caught in an ancient war between two shape shifter factions, and ensnared between two female shape shifters after the same thing … him.

Shape shifter Fiona Kayler will do anything to keep the shipping company her father left her, including getting in bed with the enemy. But when she believes the man trying to steal her company is involved with kidnapping her nephew, she must choose between family, fortune, and love. The problem is … she wants all three.

The mercenary and the shifter

Here is a little taster for you, to wet your appitite.

Mike Corritore wheeled up the circular drive of the impressive house on Lakeshore Road and cut the engine on his motorcycle. After a quick glance around, he shouldered the bags containing his clothes, ammo, pump shotgun, and talwar sword. Then he headed for the carved front door. The doorbell echoed inside indicating the mansion had a cavernous entry hall. He searched the entrance stoop for security cameras and found none.

What the heck had he gotten himself into? A rich bitch, with no security on her home, mixed up with a bad syndicate spelled major trouble. With this chintzy level of security, it would take more time than he originally anticipated to make her house and business secure.

After a couple of minutes the door opened.

“Can I help you?” asked an attractive redhead.

“I’m Mike Corritore. Here to see Fiona Kayler. Will you tell her I’ve arrived?”

The redhead looked him over, then braced her legs shoulder width apart and crossed her arms over her curvy bust. “Do you have identification, Mr. Corritore?”

Mike returned her once-over. Her porcelain complexion blushed pink at his bold examination, and she tossed her mane of wavy, mahogany hair defiantly.

Damn, she was gorgeous.

If she thought her insolent pose enough to keep him, or intruders out, she’d better reconsider.

“Hugh sent me.” He stepped forward but she blocked him.

“A driver’s license for your very expensive motorcycle will suffice,” she said, wiggling her fingers at him. When he didn’t comply, she stepped back and reached to the side of the door.

The distinct cachung of a gun cocking sent him flying to the right of the doorway.

“Identification, Mr. Corritore. Please,” she said as she leveled a pistol at him.

Mike dug in his rear pants’ pocket. “Hugh lied,” he said as he held out his driver’s license. “You don’t need protection.”

After inspecting his identification, she lowered her weapon and waved him inside. “For my business, Mr. Corritore. I’m capable of protecting my home, but I can’t draw my gun just anywhere.”

“You should get a conceal and carry license,” Mike said as he entered.

She put the safety on the gun and stashed the weapon in the table beside the front door.

“I take it you’re not the help,” he said, glancing around the entry hall.

She held out her hand. “Fiona Kayler. Nice to meet you, Mr. Corritore.”

“Mike,” he said, taking her hand. Her palm, warm and soft, told him she lived a life of leisure. But her strong grip screamed, No patsy. He held her hand a bit longer than he should have. She wriggled free and waved him to the left.

“Ladies first.”

With a nod, she led him toward a sumptuously decorated room. He followed, his eyes taking in the soft curves of her rear as she sashayed across the marble-tiled floor. Mike’s body reacted to the seductive wiggle of her bottom. She walked as sexy as she looked.

Keep your mind on the job, Corritore. He shifted his gaze away from temptation, searching the ceiling and corners of the entry for security cameras. If she had them, they were well hidden.

The measured click of her high heels on the hard marble tile floor disappeared as they stepped on the thick, white carpet of the living room. This room appeared cozier than the entry. A huge gold, gilt-edged mirror hung over the fireplace reflecting the scene outside the oversized plate-glass window.

She motioned to a seat beside the fireplace. Mike chose a location less exposed to the exterior, where he could watch the entrance to the room. Fiona dragged a side chair across the room to where he sat, positioning it at a right angle to his seat. Two vertical furrows appeared in the carpeting, bisecting their shoe impressions and the vacuumed paths in the thick fibers. Apparently, she didn’t use this room much.

“So, Ms. Kayler—”

“Fiona,” she corrected.

“Fiona, exactly what do you need me to do?” As he said the words, he had a lurid vision of what he’d like to do to this lovely woman. He shook it off. She was Hugh’s friend and in trouble. He had no business screwing around with damsels in distress. They were needy. The last thing he wanted.

“A couple of years ago I had a problem with smugglers. They brought in some hazardous materials which got me in trouble with Homeland Security and the FBI. They cleared me, but my business took a pretty big hit. To keep things afloat, I’ve had to get in bed with some rough characters recently.”

At the phrase get in bed with Mike cocked his eyebrow at her.

“Not literally,” she amended quickly, as a dusky pink blush crept over her pale complexion. “I need my security beefed up so I don’t have a replay of two years ago.”

“Any good security company could upgrade you.”

“I also need someone I can trust implicitly. Hugh vouched for you, and I trust Hugh.”

“We should start with your home security. I didn’t see surveillance cameras at the door.”

“My home is perfectly safe. It’s my business I’m concerned about.”

Fiona crossed her arms over her chest, her body language closing off to further suggestions. Mike followed her motions. As he did, he spotted a red dot on her chest. The dot wiggled.

“Get down!” Mike shouted as he dove for Fiona.

Cut scene from Midnight Angel

Tracey A Wood (2)

I was suppose to have been on a fellow authors blog today. Unfortunaly that hasn’t happened. So here i am hoping to entertain you.

A fellow author posted this previously on their blog and everyone seemed to enjoy it. This is a scene that was cut from Midnight Angel. As you may or may not know it is the first book I have written. And as such i orginally did what i do in life, I rattled on. Yes i talk when i am nervious, and when i am not. So there is no getting away from being a babbler. Lol

Now it is streamlined and edited. But when i first wrote it, it was a massive 101,000 + words long.

Anyway, I’m doing the babble thing again so here is one of the cut scenes. I will post other scenes in the months to come.

Kat Shaw is the heroin of Midnight Angel.

6a8c9f190c02b60983f20d04f03d8463

Kat and Jonathon were friends from high school.

Their friendship began when Kat got into trouble fighting with the school bitch, who was pushing him around.  He would not fight back which she saw as a weakness. But that was not the case. It was because she was a girl and Jonathan would never hit a girl. She had been having a go at him every day for months, making snide remarks behind his back about him being gay. Things gradually got worse and worse until she started to get physical with him and by physical I mean violent.

One day it all came to a head. It was when the bitch, also known as Donna, punched Jonathan in the nose. She started off pushing him around. Then moved on to slapping him at the back of the head.  Her grand finale was the punch in the nose. The blood erupted like a volcanic explosion, splattering ever one within a few feet of the incident. I had seen everything and kept my temper well, until that happened.

My blood boiled as I tried to control the emotions welling up inside me. She was a bully. Something, I couldn’t and still cannot stand. I felt the anger start in the pit of my belly. In a sudden crescendo, it erupted. I could not stop it! I was shaking all over. Before I knew what had happened, I was on top of her and she was flat on her back. I was reigning blows down on her. She was trying to cover her face, screaming like a banshee, and begging me to stop. The more she screamed the more I hit her, until I realised Jonathan was pleading with me to leave it. She wasn’t worth it. The next thing I knew, I was lifted in the air, landing on the ground with a hard thump on my backside. It all happened so quickly. I looked around wondering what the hell had happened. I realized, Mr Newman, one of the teachers, had seen what was going on. Everyone knew what Donna had been doing but I still got into trouble. Two wrongs don’t make a right, the headmaster told me.

Whatever.

From then on Jonathan and I were friends and he didn’t get any more shit, from that bitch Donna.

Two wrongs don’t make a right, the headmaster told me.
Whatever.
From then on Jonathan and I were friends and he didn’t get any more shit, from that bitch Donna.

Midnight Angel release – meet the author

You’ve probably all seen the posts, tweets, and blogs about my debut novel, Midnight Angel. They have been going on for months now. Well, finally it’s here!

I have been writing this book since 2010 and since then it has changed, considerably. Oh, the overall plot is the same. But if you have never written a book, you wouldn’t believe the amount of time and effort it has taken, to get it to this point. I hope you enjoy this first installment of the Council series.

Tracey A Wood

Bio:

Tracey A Wood lives in Staffordshire, in the United Kingdom. She has been married for over thirty years and has two children. One of her boys lives at home due to being disabled, the other has flown the coup. She has three cats that are her babies, and she talks to them all of the time. Funny thing is they don’t answer back.
She loves snowboarding, skiing, jumping out of airplanes and bungee jumping. Well, that is when other people are doing them. She prefers to have her nose in a book or writing one. She also loves to people watch which her husband is always telling her to stop doing. She has a job that she enjoys and works full time. Although if she won the lottery, that might change! She has also got a very good imagination.
In 2014, she decided to take the bull by the horns and send her manuscript to Soul Mate Publishing. She feels so privileged to have her book published, as this is the first one that she has written. It has made her dream of being a published author a reality. Life really is too short to wait; you’ve got to go for it. She is still working full time and is also working on another book in her limited spare time.  Her favorite saying is ‘Everything happens for a reason’ which she also believes is true.
Her books are fast paced and centered on a female lead who finds an inner strength after being thrown into situations that are beyond her control.

Review of Menagerie by Rachel Vincent

Menagerie (Menagerie, #1)Menagerie by Rachel Vincent
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I wasn’t too sure how this novel was going to play out, at first. I loved Ms. Vincent’s Shifter series. Once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down. Ms. Vincent captivates your imagination with mythical creatures you know and love. Werewolves, Siren’s, Djinn, Trolls, Minotaurs the list is extensive.

The main character, Delilah Marlow witnesses cruelty to one of the attractions at the Metzger’s Menagerie, which is a traveling carnival containing Cryptids (Mythical creatures) by the hand of one of the handlers. Her reaction is shocking to everyone she knows, including herself.

Delilah finds herself stripped of her human rights. Her job, home and even her name, taken from her. This novel deals with the issues of how people treat things they don’t understand. It presents the darker side of human nature and how some of the handlers mistreat their charges.
I loved this book and can’t wait for a sequel
